BBC's Doctor Who is the longest-running science fiction television program in the world. Ever.

It began life on November 23rd, 1963, featuring William T. Hartnell as the time-traveling Doctor. The series ran 26 years and ended in December, 1989, with Sylvester McCoy in the role of the Doctor. An attempt was made to bring the show back to the small screen in 1996. Finally in 2005, the series was revived by Queer as Folk creator Russell T. Davies. This time around, the show is a big-budget production and is one of the BBC's flagship shows. Currently, the Doctor is played by David Tennant, and his companion, Rose, is played by Billie Piper. The SciFi Channel will begin broadcasting episodes of the new series (featuring Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor) 17 March 2006.

On Doctor Who Night (which, coincidentally, is OutWorlders' longest-running event, clocking in at 5 years February 2006), we enjoy episodes old and new, featuring stories from all 10 Doctors.

We start gathering at Alan's at 7:00pm for socializing and snacking. Showtime is 8:00pm (more or less promptly).

viewing schedule:

February 9: Doctor Who Night is unfortunately cancelled this month, as my band, Hyperdrive, got a last-minute and quite unexpected invitation to perform that night at the Atlanta Comics Expo. Those of you who are planning to attend ACE, please come see us at 10:00 Saturday evening. If you're not attending ACE, you may want to join JD for a special Torchwood night, recapping the entire first season. If you missed any of them, or want to rewatch some of them with pals, you'll enjoy this event. Details forthcoming.

March 8: We'll be celebrating the 7th Anniversary of Doctor Who Night (one month late due to last month's cancellation) by seeing the story that kicked off the show's 20th season, "Arc of Infinity", starring Peter Davison as the 5th Doctor. And old enemy, long thought dead, unexpectedly resurfaces and attempts to take over the Doctor's body in order to re-exist. The High Council of Gallifrey take the only action they can to prevent this evil from re-emerging in our universe: execute the Doctor.
